The Eisack Valley - the valley of trails, South Tyrol and the Dolomites are an Eldorado for active guests. The main mountain of Brixen, Plose, can be reached within 20 minutes, and is especially4.4. well known for the unique view of the Geisler Peaks and the breath-taking panoramic 360° view at an altitude of 2,500 metres: from the Zillertal Alps to the Dolomites – UNESCO World Natural Heritage site and on to the Ortler Mountain area.
Hiking in Brixen & Surroundings
Every hiking trip will offer you new impressions and insights. Walk across the Alpine meadows to the Rodengo/Rodenecker Alm, the most beautiful mountain village in South Tyrol, the Fane Alm and the Alpe di Villandro/Villanderer Hochalm. The malga Latzfons Alm welcomes you with its pilgrimage church, which is at a higher altitude than any other in Europe, as well as the Latzfons Cross. You can experience something really special with the sunrise at Sasso de Putia/Peitlerkofel, a hiking trip to the Alpe di Lusòn/Lüsn Alm or to Tre Chiese/Dreikirchen. The themed hiking routes in the Isarco/Eisack Valley region are the Sentiero S. Giacomo/Jakobsweg, the Ketschnweg (chestnut route), the canyon hiking trip Gilfenklamm, the European Highway no. 2, the Brixen Highway, the ’Dolomieu-Sechs-Almen-Weg ‘ (route through six Alpine meadows), as well as the ‘Walther von der Vogelweide’ route.
About 30 minutes from Bressanone/Brixen, you come to the Alpe di Siusi/Seiser Alm, the highest Alpine meadow region in Europe with its famous Sciliar/Schlern mountain massif. Also, about 30 minutes by car, you will come to the Val di Funes/Villnöss Valley, where Reinhold Messner was born. The natural area is preserved as part of the UNESCO World Heritage scheme. With the S. Maddalena/St. Magdalene chapel in the forefront and the Odles/Geisler Peaks in the background, it offers a most picturesque impression. In this area, you can also find rare, wild orchids.
On route – by bike
Experience and get to know Bressanone/Brixen and South Tyrol by bike….. There is a variety of routes available:
Three town tour: Bressanone/Brixen-Chiusa/Klausen-Vipiteno/Sterzing: Comfortable by bike from one town to the next. Vipiteno/Sterzing – the Fugger town, Bressanone/Brixen – the bishop’s town and Chiusa/Klausen – the artist town will draw you into their romantic historic centres with numerous places worth visiting, hidden corners and lots of shops. Route 99: The distance between the Brenner Pass and Bolzano/Bozen is exactly 99 km! The cultural cycling route offers an idyllic tour with fascinating views, driving through picturesque villages and passing many interesting places worth seeing such as the Fortezza/Franzensfeste, The Varna/Vahrn Lake, Cloisters Novacella/Neustift, Vipiteno/Sterzing, Bressanone/Brixen and Chiusa/Klausen.
Particularly during Spring, when the apple orchards are in full bloom, it is a splendid experience to cycle to Viums on the ‘apple high plateau’ Naz/Natz- Sciaves/Schabs. Puster bike..... from Bressanone/Brixen to Muhlbach and across to Brunico/Bruneck and the Puster Valley to Lienz. If you find it is all too much, you can always stop and take the train for the rest of the tour.
